Nancy – in memorium
In Memorium
Nancy Paulikas
November 11, 1960 – March 11, 2017
Ever since Nancy wandered away from her family while at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in October 2016, the Alzheimer’s Los Angeles community has held out hope that she would be found safe and sound and returned to her husband, Kirk Moody. We are sad to share the news with you all that Kirk was recently informed by LAPD that Nancy’s remains had been positively identified in the Sherman Oaks area. We send our deepest condolences to Kirk, Nancy’s parents, and all their extended family and friends who mobilized an extraordinary effort to find her.
We also honor their determination to ensure that other families with loved ones who wander are better supported by a system that more easily and effectively responds at these times of crisis. Thanks to their advocacy, the County of Los Angeles convened a group of stakeholders whose recommendations resulted in the creation of a new program called “L.A. Found.” Though only in its early stages, the hope is L.A. Found will serve as one stop shopping for families seeking information on technologies to keep their loved one safe at home, available community support services and guidance on how to work with emergency services if your loved one wanders. Read more about L.A. Found on our local advocacy page.
