World Alzheimer’s Month 2020

September is World Alzheimer’s Month, an international campaign to raise dementia awareness and challenge stigma. Each year, Alzheimer organizations from around the world unite to maximize our impact for educating the public about Alzheimer’s and other dementias and to advocate for more resources for detection, diagnosis, treatment, and support. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized the burden by introducing the Global Action Plan on the public health response to dementia 2017-2025.

The impact of this campaign is growing, but the stigmatization and misinformation that surrounds dementia remains a global issue. This September is the time for action, when the global dementia family unites to call for and demand change. World Alzheimer’s Month is coordinated by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI), the umbrella organization of Alzheimer organizations around the world.

Alzheimer’s Los Angeles is proud to be part of the community working to achieve these goals. Although locally focused, our professionals are often invited to speak in other countries, including Taiwan and Austria, and to present on our programs and efforts to improve healthcare systems here in Los Angeles and California.
