Alzheimer’s Los Angeles is honored to receive the 2019 Diversity Award from Grantmakers in Aging, a national membership organization that supports aging issues. Established in 2003, the Diversity Award is given to national, regional, and local individuals, programs, and organizations that embrace diversity as a fundamental element in all levels of their work in aging. In addition, the award recognizes work done beyond diversity in organizations that demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusivity.
This year, Alzheimer’s LA was recognized for our thirty year “journey to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion.” We were applauded for our long-term commitment to serve under-resourced, lower income, and ethnically diverse communities. They highlighted our efforts to adapt educational programs and materials to make them more inclusive, and for our recent “Faces of Caregiving” video profile series. The award ceremony was held on October 16, 2019 at the Grantmakers in Aging Annual Conference in New York City. Alzheimer’s Los Angeles’ Heather Cooper Ortner, president & CEO, and Dr. Debra Cherry, executive vice president, were on hand to accept the award.
